Preheat oven to 350F. Lightly grease and line a standard loaf pan with parchment paper; set aside. In a large bowl, whisk together the brown or coconut sugar, pumpkin puree, maple syrup, egg, vanilla, and avocado or coconut oil until smooth. Then, add in the flour, baking powder, baking soda, pumpkin pie spice, and salt to the wet ingredient mixture. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to mix until combined and smooth. Transfer about half of the batter to a separate medium bowl to use for the chocolate batter. Add in the cocoa powder and milk, and mix until smooth. Then fold in 1/4 cup of the chocolate chips. Add a few scoops of the pumpkin batter to the prepared loaf pan, and then a few scoops of the chocolate batter. Keep alternating between batters until both are gone (I did 2 rounds). Use a butter knife to run through and gently swirl around the batter to get a marbled effect. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips all over the top of the batter. Bake at 350F for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean. Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes, and then remove the loaf from the pan and transfer to a wire cooling rack to cool completely. Slice and serve. Enjoy!
