Hot Fudge Sauce: In a pot over medium-low heat, melt the butter & chocolate chips, stirring frequently. Once melted, slowly whisk in the half & half until combined. Whisk in the sugar, cocoa powder & salt. Cook over medium heat for 5 mins, until it comes to a boil. Reduce the heat & simmer for another 2-3 mins, stirring frequently. Remove & stir in vanilla. Transfer to a jar or bowl until ready to use. Store in the fridge for up to 3 weeks. Preheat the oven to 350F. Grease & line a 9x5” loaf pan w/ parchment paper. Set aside. Brown Butter: Add the butter to a saucepan over medium-high heat. Melt & slightly brown (~5-8 mins). Remove & pour into a large bowl. Cool slightly. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda & salt. Once brown butter has slightly cooled, add the sugar & whisk. Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Then whisk in the buttermilk, sourdough discard & vanilla. Add the dry ingredients to the wet. Fold until just combined. Gently fold in the 1/2 cup of hot fudge sauce. Then, fold in chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake at 350F for 50-60 mins, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with moist crumbs. Cool in pan for 15-20 mins, then remove. Serve warm w/ vanilla ice cream, the hot fudge sauce & flaky sea salt, if desired. Enjoy!
